Canon's New BlackBerry Smartphone Printing and Scanning Aps

In response to the increase of mobile devices in the workforce and the demand for print and scan capability from device users, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the availability of the Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application for BlackBerry® smartphones. This application provides BlackBerry smartphone users with a mobile print and scan solution that easily integrates their BlackBerry smartphones with their Canon imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems1.

The Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application is a combination of two separate applications:
1.      A multifunctional embedded application platform (MEAP) application that runs on Canon's imageRUNNER multifunction products (MFP)
  1. A mobile client application that resides on BlackBerry smartphones

Together the applications provide communication between Canon MFPs and BlackBerry smartphones allowing users to perform print and scan functions between the two devices, such as scanning from the MFP to BlackBerry smartphones or printing from BlackBerry smartphones to the MFP. This server-less, driver-less solution provides flexibility for the on-the-go mobile worker for their print and scan needs.

"In today's highly mobile workplace users seek instant access to important documents without sacrificing print quality," said Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Marketing, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A. "The Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application meets our customers' demands by coupling the ability to manage printing needs from your fingertips while achieving high-quality output results."

The mobile client application is available now as a free download from BlackBerry App World™. The MEAP application is available for purchase from Authorized Canon Dealers.

Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile, coupled with a compatible Canon imageRUNNER MFP, expands the capabilities of the mobile workforce with an array of printing and scanning opportunities. Customers will now be able to easily print emails, PDFs and photos from BlackBerry smartphones to a Canon MFP, scanning hard copy documents to BlackBerry smartphones and remotely manage Canon MFPs, print finishing features, and scan options (e.g., select paper size selection, select scan resolution selection, duplex printing, color vs. black and white, select number of prints, collate and more).

How to Load Photo Paper Into a Canon Pixma Printer

Canon Pixma printers support several types of paper, including photo paper. Photo paper is used for printing digital pictures because the quality of the paper is higher than standard printing paper. Since photo paper has a specific printing side, you must insert it into the printer correctly to ensure a proper printout. Load your photo paper into the Canon Pixma correctly for high-quality prints
Turn on the printer and press the Paper Feed switch until the Auto Sheet Feeder indicator light turns on.
Pull up on the paper sheet feeder on the top and back of the printer and slide out the paper support.
Take a stack of no more than 10 pieces of photo paper and flatten the corners, if they are curled. Curled corners may cause jams within the printer.
Place the paper in the paper sheet feeder with the printable side of the paper facing up. The printable side of photo paper is the shiny or whiter side of the paper.
Print your documents as needed.
Switch on the printer and press the Paper Feed switch until the Cassette indicator light turns on.
Pull on the cassette on the bottom of the printer to slide it out of the printer.
Flatten the corners of a stack of no more than 10 sheets of photo paper if the corners are curled. The paper may become jammed in the printer if the corners are curled.
Place the stack of paper in the cassette so the paper is touching the right side and the printing side of the paper is facing down. Adjust the plastic paper guides so they touch the paper. The paper stack guides help facilitate the paper moving into the printer.

Setting up a Wireless Printer in 5 Easy Steps

1. Determine the Type of Wireless Printer

You'll be using the wireless router to connect the new wireless printer to your home network so make sure the router is up and running. Most new computers and wireless printers are equipped with either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi capabilities. If your printer is not wireless you can purchase a wireless card that plugs into a USB port.
2. Select the Location of the Wireless Printer

The wireless printer should be set up in a place at home or in the office that is accessible to everyone and where there is ample space for paper, printer ink and other supplies. If you are using Bluetooth wireless you may want to give this some thought since Bluetooth printers have a smaller wireless range than Wi-Fi printers.
3. Enable Printer Sharing

The server computer's operating system must be informed that the printer you are adding to the network is a wireless printer. (The server computer is the one the printer is connected to.)

In Windows Vista, this is done by accessing the network settings in the Control Panel and then activating file and printer sharing in the local area network settings.

For Windows XP go to Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, "View installed printers or fax printers." Right-click on your printer and select "Sharing", then select "Share this Printer." Give the printer a name and click OK.
4. Add the Wireless Printer to any other Computers on your Network

The other computers on the network must also be set up for using the wireless printer. To do this in Windows Vista, open the Control Panel in the classic view and then open Printers. Right click on the printer that is going to be shared, and then open Properties. In Properties, check the box that allows the printer to be a shared device.

For Windows XP you will need to do the following:

· Open Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, and click on "Add a printer."

· This will take you into a wizard to find the printer you shared previously.

· Click Next until you are at the Local or Network Printer page.

· Select "A network printer or a printer attached to another computer" and click Next.

· Now click "Browse for a printer" and click Next. This will display your workgroup, the PCs connected to it and any printers that are attached to them.

· Click on the wireless printer you shared earlier and click Next. [This should install the driver automatically. If not, you may need to get the CD software that came with the printer.]

· Now click Yes to make the wireless printer the default printer for this PC (or No if the computer already has one attached to it).

· Click Finish.
5. Troubleshooting Wireless Printers

Both this computer and the one the wireless printer is attached to might need a reboot. If you're not seeing the computer it is attached to, double-check that all computers have the same network name: go to Control Panel, Performance & Maintenance, "See basic information about your computer." From there click on "Computer Name" and your workgroup will be displayed.

If you're not seeing the printer, make sure it's switched on. If printer still doesn't work, you may need to install the printer driver using the software CD that came with it.
